Gelcoat Thickness Gauge (Wet Film Thickness Measurement)
Packaging Options:
The Gelcoat Thickness Gauge is priced individually and shipped in a small envelope when purchased individually. The product comes with a protective case.
Product Description:
The Gelcoat Thickness Gauge is an ideal tool for measuring the thickness of the wet film of gelcoat applied to the mold surface with a brush or spray gun. The comb is made of stainless steel and is corrosion resistant. The measuring tool, with its hexagonal structure, allows for thickness measurements between 25and 3000 microns.
This measurement method allows the user to accurately measure the thickness of the gelcoat. To use, place the tip of the tool on the wet surface of the gelcoat; the last tooth that becomes wet indicates the thickness of the gelcoat applied. It is recommended to place the tool in its protective case after use.
Importance of Gelcoat Thickness:
Whether applied by brush or spray gun, the thickness of the gelcoat is one of the most important factors in the production of composite parts. The thickness of the gelcoat should not be too thin or too thick.
- The thickness of the wet gelcoat layer, applied in two layers, should be 700-800microns in total.
- After each layer is applied, the thickness of the gelcoat should be checked with a gelcoat comb.
- Applying gelcoat with excessive thickness will create surface defects and cracking due to reduced flexibility.
