Gelcoat for mold and acid tank construction
The top layer of composite surfaces that appears as a colored and shiny coating is called gelcoat. In addition to playing a cosmetic role for the part, gelcoat is responsible for protecting the surface of composite parts (fiberglass) against abrasion, corrosion, chemicals, weather and ultraviolet rays of sunlight and provides care for these surfaces.
In other words, gelcoat is the most vital part of a composite part, and the lifespan of composite and fiberglass parts and their proper performance depend on the correct selection of gelcoat and its application method. Gelcoat must be cured within an acceptable time, and when it is cured to the appropriate extent, properties such as color retention, water resistance and resistance to weather conditions reach their desired level.
