Iran Peroxide (MEKP) is a catalyst used in the composites industry for polyester and vinyl ester resins. It reacts with the resin to convert it from a liquid to a solid (cure it). MEKP is an organic peroxide. Since these compounds are unstable in their pure form, they are mixed with inert compounds to form catalysts used in the industry.
Due to this mixing, MEKP can be purchased in different grades, with active oxygen ratios such as M-50 or M-60 which can give a wide range of gel times. While different types of catalysts are available for curing polyester and vinyl ester resins for room temperature curing
