Benzoyl Peroxide Powder, Paste BPO is used in the polymerization and curing of polyester resins, acrylic resins, acrylic resin manufacturing, at ambient and elevated temperatures.
Peroxan BP-Paste 50 PF is used for curing unsaturated polyester resins at ambient temperatures and in combination with a tertiary amine accelerator. Benzoyl Peroxide Powder, Paste BPO is designed for curing powders, e.g. for car repair kits, body fillers. The curing system, Peroxan BP -Paste 50 PF in combination with an amine accelerator, shows a very fast cure that is hardly affected by moisture and fillers. Even at low temperatures, a relatively good cure is achieved. A disadvantage may be the yellow color and poor light resistance of the molded product.
At temperatures below 80°C, benzoyl peroxide should be used with amine accelerators, and at higher temperatures, in many cases, amine accelerators are not required. Powdered benzoyl peroxide is easily dispersed and dissolved in acrylic and polyester resins, and after dissolution, it becomes a clear solution. The percentage of benzoyl peroxide used is 2 to 5% of the weight of the resin.
When using amine accelerators with benzoyl peroxide, direct contact between the accelerator and benzoyl peroxide should be strictly avoided due to the risk of explosion, i.e. first dissolve the amine accelerator in the relevant resin or monomer, and then add benzoyl peroxide to the system. The major chemical compounds produced from the decomposition of benzoyl peroxide are:
Carbon dioxide, benzene, benzoic acid, diphenyl, phenylbenzoate. The spontaneous decomposition temperature of powdered benzoyl peroxide is about 55 degrees Celsius and should be kept below this temperature to prevent explosion and fire hazards. According to AkzoNobel’s suggestion for powdered benzoyl peroxide, the best storage temperature for powdered benzoyl peroxide is below 25 degrees Celsius so that powdered benzoyl peroxide (Perkadox CH50) can maintain its quality well. The chemical structure of benzoyl peroxide is C6H5CO)2O2), with two benzoyl groups attached to the peroxide group.
Applications of Benzoyl Peroxide Powder, Paste BPO
